Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), issued a statement in response to the violence in the United States Capitol on January 6.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops recently released a statement on the new COVID-19 vaccines, which provides insight into the moral considerations of inoculation for believers. Were the vaccines developed using aborted fetal cells? Is it morally acceptable for God’s people to receive them if so? The issue is complex, but this statement provides ample faith-based counsel.
Bishop William A. Wack, CSC, dedicated the renovated Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Dec. 13, 2020, after a ten-month, $5.7-million renovation process. Parishioners throughout the Pensacola community attended the two-hour Mass, which began with a procession outside.

“St. Joseph reminds us that those who appear hidden or in the shadows can play an incomparable role in the history of salvation. A word of recognition and of gratitude is due to them all,” Pope Francis said.
It is such an honor for me to serve as your bishop. Thank you for your presence, your participation, and your prayers as we build up our local church. As we anticipate the coming of the Lord this Advent, I invite you to pray with me, with your family, and with the family of the Church. (see more)

NEW YORK — Prominent leaders of the Catholic Church in America point to a “culture of clericalism” that led to laicized ex-cardinal Theodore McCarrick rising through the ranks of the church despite decades-long accusations of sexual misconduct and abuse.
I welcome the report of the Holy See’s investigation into its knowledge and decision-making regarding Theodore McCarrick during his long career as a priest, bishop, and cardinal. We are studying these findings, and we are grateful to our Holy Father Pope Francis for his pastoral concern for the family of God in the United States and his leadership in calling the Church to greater accountability and transparency in addressing issues of abuse and the mishandling of abuse claims at every level.
God sent his Son into the world to conquer sin and death, and in his resurrection, we are redeemed and forgiven. Even as this truth gives us eternal hope, we recognize that sin, violence and sickness still prevail on earth. In the Catholic Church we have witnessed the horror of sexual abuse by clergy and other church leaders. It is an unspeakable action that cries to heaven for justice. The sin of sexual abuse must be rooted out and eliminated.
The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee has received the Florida State Attorney General’s report on the investigation of sexual abuse cases in the diocese. Of course, our first concern is for the victims of abuse, especially at the hands of clergy and other church personnel. Although it is painful to talk about this issue repeatedly, the suffering and pain from those who were abused are never-ending. We must never tire of assisting those who have been hurt.

Father Michael J. McGivney was beatified at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, Conn. on October 31. The parish priest from the Archdiocese of Hartford, Conn. founded the lay fraternal Order of the Knights of Columbus in 1882 and died of pneumonia while ministering to the people of his community during the pandemic of 1890. The beatification follows the approval by Pope Francis in May of a miracle attributed to...
We in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee are blessed to have many individuals volunteer in Ministries that respect and protect the dignity of Life. Each year during the month of October, the US Catholic Church celebrates Respect Life month. It is a time to reflect on the sacredness of all life and a time to understand we as Catholics and as people of Good Will are called to protect and to help the lives of the marginalized and vulnerable.
Bishop Felipe J. Estévez of the Diocese of St. Augustine, the outgoing Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary (SVDP) in Boynton Beach, today announced the appointment of Fr. Alfredo Hernández as the new Rector and President of the seminary for a six-year term. Fr. Hernández has functioned as Acting Rector and President since July of 2020 with the departure of the previous Rector, the newly ordained Bishop David L. Toups.
During a segment of “Francesco” which discussed Pope Francis’ pastoral care of Catholics who identify as LGBT, the pope made two distinct comments. He said first that: “Homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family. They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it.” While the pope did not elaborate on the meaning of those remarks in the video...
