Boy Scouting

The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting is a committee affiliated with the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee Department of Youth serving the Gulf Coast  and Suwannee River Area Councils of the Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of Northwest Florida, Inc  and Girl Scout Council of The Apalachee Bend, Inc. of Girl Scouts USA. The Committee is dedicated to promoting “Duty to God” at each level of Scouting. We are affiliated with the National Catholic Committee on Scouting® (NCCS), an advisory to the Boy Scouts of America, National Catholic Committee on Girl Scouts and Camp Fire, and Region XIV of the NCCS and NFCYM.

Scouting provides the opportunity for boys and girls to plan activities, learn self reliance, and develop decision making skills with the support and guidance of skilled adult leaders. The emphasis is always on personal growth and service to God and others.

Scouting is an official part of the Diocese of Pensacola Tallahassee Department of Youth. The office provides material and assistance for the scout to earn his/her respective religious scout medal. A Diocesan Scout Chaplain is appointed by the Bishop to work with the Department of Youth staff. The scout chaplain works to provide programs that will enhance the scout’s opportunity to grow in Christian maturity.

For Girl Scouts the Department of Youth sponsors a retreat each year. Those girls working on the Marian Medal are invited to spend the weekend with others working on the same medal to fulfill one of their requirements. This retreat takes place under the direction of a trained qualified girl scout leader at a local parish.

For Boy Scouts the Department of Youth sponsors a scout retreat each year. Those boys working on the Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius medals are invited to spend the weekend with others working on the same medal to fulfill one of their requirements. This retreat takes place under the direction of a trained qualified boy scout leader at the boy scout camp.

We are able to accomplish these events, because of the many dedicated leaders that donate their time and energy to providing a quality program.

Girl Scouts of the USA and Camp Fire USA:

Partners in Youth Ministry Today, when youth ministers and Girl Scout or Camp Fire leaders get together, they share resources and learn from one another. This positive, cooperative relationship enables these adults to effectively serve Catholic young people. Partnerships include work on service projects, retreats, program activities, and camping to name a few... Click here for Scouting Information for girls
