Brief description of event:  During this three week mini-course, we will study the book, Fire Within:  St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, and the Gospel on Prayer, by Fr. Thomas Dubay.  This book is the fruit of Fr. Dubay’s many years of study and experience in spiritual direction and in it he synthesizes the teachings on prayer of the two great doctors of the Church on prayer—St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila—and the teaching of Sacred Scripture.  It is meant for every Christian and is based on the Gospel imperative of personal prayer and the call to holiness.  Here is an outstanding book on prayer and the spiritual life written by one of the best spiritual directors and retreat masters of our time, and based on the wirings of the Church’s two greatest mystical doctors.  Dinner is available at 5:30pm for just $3 per person. The Loving Search for God with Father William Menninger, Cerveny Conference Center at Camp Weed, 11057 Camp Weed Place, Live Oak, Florida 32060. Dates: February 27 - March 1, 2015. Cost: Single Room - $310 Double Room - $245 per person. Based on the 14th Century book “The Cloud of Unknowing” and his own book “The Loving Search for God,” Fr. Meninger will talk about the “three levels in the growth of the child of God as he or she matures in the loving search - the purgative way, the illuminative way, and the unitive way.” The purgative way, when we are “aware of our attraction to God but perhaps, because of worldly attractions, habits of sin ... find ourselves now hot, now cold, in our loving search,” is the beginning of our search. We move then to the illuminative way, where contemplative prayer begins. We begin to understand that God loves us and we “fervently seek to love God in return.” The third stage is the unitive way, and is the “way of the saints.” It is the “call to greatness” to which all are called, but few follow. It is not something we earn. It is something we accept and run to with “open arms and eager heart.” “God loves you; just love God in return. Do this and everything else will be added unto you. Give the priority of life to whom it belongs, to God.” Contact Jeri Winkleblack, 850-562-3267
